Development
A new breed is developed to have friendly nature and kind personality that is soon after named as Bengal cats. Bengal cats are generated in the result of cross combination (cross breeding) of Asian Leopards Cats with domestic cats possessing desired facial appearance.
The latest SBT Bengal kitten have gene band sourced from numerous verities of family cats. The gene of these cats is manly taken from Abyssian, ocicat, Egyptian Maus, American Shorthair, and domestic shorthaired cats. Jean Mill of California introduced this breed for the very first time in 1970.
The first three age group of this lovable cat is referred to “filial” production. The Bengal who have Asian Leopard Cats (AFC) parents are known as F1 Bengal, short surname for first filial. Then F1 is crossed with domestic male and the new generation was named F2 or can be called as second filial. F2 female was then bred with another domestic that gives birth to F3 or third filial. Then finally F3 kitten was matted in an order to a domestic one that generated the final form F4. The F4 age band was the final generation achieved that is later named as Bengal breed. Bengal breed was then trusted as family cats because this breed was planned properly by Stud Book Tradition (SBT). This breed is now available on many Bengal Cat breeding centers.
Name
The new generation formed needed a proper name. Then name of this breed “Bengal” was derived from the original scientific name of Asian Leopard Cats that was Prionailurus Bengalensis and not from the well known Bengal Tiger Species.
Size
Bengal Cats are usually founded in medium size. The average weight of Bengal male is 20 lb that mean 9 on kg scale. The females Bengal are generally present with 7 to 12 pounds and on kg scale they have 4 to 6 kg of weight.
Colors
This breed is available in many colors that is brown, Melanistic, blue, silver and snow (Sepia, Lynx, Mink).
Personality
These cats are very friendly and active in nature. They have great affection with running water and will never mind to get wet. Bengal cats are much known for playing games with their owners such as “Hide and Seek”. Many holder have stories of their water loving Bengal cats of jumping in a tube or sink to take pleasure in it. They are very energetic and intelligent having curious personality. They always wanted to be the middle of whatever his owner is engaged in.
